|
|
So off Cheena and I went today to Greencross Inala Vet to have her looked at as she has been incontinent this past week or so. It started mildly with bed wetting every couple of months, now it's escalated to urination on the patio everytime she needs to wee.
So after seeing Michelle Barton, she has been given Clavulox antibiotics for 2 weeks, after which I need to take Cheena (5yrs old) back so she can collect a urine sample to test. She couldn't get one there as she had a feel around her bladder and couldn't feel any, but at this stage, it looks like an infection.
If the antibiotics don't work at all, it could be her Urethra needs tightening because desexing in female dogs mostly can cause this on occasion, this is treated with hormones or another medication she mentioned. She will be checked over for Diabetes also. No stones where present in her bladder. It's an elimination process at this stage. I think she may still have a case of mild incontinence once the infection is cleared, but will wait and see.
The consult including 2 wks worth of antibiotics cost $130.00 in total. I had a $20 gift voucher from Greencross that they handed out at the Pignic, so cost me about $110.00
I will update Cheeny weenys progress here. _________________ ~Heidi~

Thanks girls
Anitbiotics are working, there have only been a couple of accidents since Sunday and both at night for some reason.
She is a lot drier now as before she was always wet because she would just wee where she was resting. _________________ ~Heidi~

I emailed Michelle just to let her know how she is doing and I also asked her at the same time about that little boy piggy with the 3 legs. She said he is eating and seems bright, defying expections. Not giving the all clear till after 2 wks though. _________________ ~Heidi~

So back to the vet today. Cheena is still mildly incontinent, so I have been given Oestrogen which should stop the incontinence in 5 days. If not, there is another medication I can use.
Michelle showed me on the computer the area of a female dog that controls the urine, and what happens is when a dog is desexed (approx. 20% cases) it can put pressure on the urethral sphincter.
I still think it's better to have a dog desexed than risk puppies. _________________ ~Heidi~

The technology now is great, seeing visually what is going on makes it easier to understand. _________________ ~Heidi~

I rang Michelle today to ask if I can put her on the Oestrogen 3 times a week instead of 2 as there has been a couple of accidents. It's only Oestrogen, but I prefer to check with her anyway.
When Cheena was taking Oestrogen everyday for the first week, she was completely dry, so it is working, just need to find her balance now and she wil be right. _________________ ~Heidi~
